Rodolfo Vera Quizon, Sr., OGH, known by his screen name Dolphy, was a Filipino comedian-actor in the Philippines. He was widely regarded as the Philippines' "King of Comedy" for his comedic talent embodied by his long roster of works on stage, radio, television and movies
Dolphy died at age 83 due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which he was battling a few weeks ago.
He died July 10, 2012 at 8:34 pm just when I was still dressing up to go to work.
It's really sad to think that the king of Philippine Comedy is no more. It was so sudden when he was admitted at the Makati Medical Center a few weeks ago due to obstructive pulmonary disease.
News later revealed that Dolphy was led to the ICU due to complications on his illness which led to the development of pneumonia and probably toxic metabolic encephalopathy, which could lead to sepsis or blood poisoning.. From that, the king of comedy started fighting for his life.
According to sources, Dolphy was barely hanging on early today. Ruel Quizon stated that they gathered around at the hospital 1:00pm and on 3:00pm, the entire family gathered to a prayer led by Father Sonny Ramirez.
This is a sad news to the movie industry here in the Philippines as He was considered to be one of the pillars that led to the "bloom" that made way to more developments.
Since I was a child, Iv'e always watched Television and I always see him. This is so sad...
We will miss you..
